As nobody seems to have an idea how to solve my problem I posted
recently (news:(E-Mail Removed)), I'll try another way
;-(

Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall (best one by one) all video
codecs? I know how to uninstall them from within the device manager, but
I'm anxious that I can't reinstall them all, because I don't how they
all came onto my system ;-). Or is it save just to reinstall those that
come with the MS codec package plus divx and the intel stuff for
example?

I'd be happy for some suggestions.

I guess I'm thinking that your system needs some of the codecs, so unless
you are going to wipe your drive clean and reinstall Windows XP to get a
fresh start, it might not be a good idea to delete them.

I already tried to uninstall the codecs (on a backed up system), but
failed, because I can't uninstall them all. As I said, inside the device
manager the remove function doesn't do anything and most of the codecs
seem to be installed by the system itself. So I can uninstall only those
that have an appropriate uninstalling procedure.

I'm almost unable to reinstall XP completely, because this is a
perfectly working system, that would take me days to reinstall. And
meanwhile I doubt if this would help.

There is another strange occurence with videos: Playing some avi videos
simply lets the system reboot after watching them for a while (more or
less). In some NGs I found this symptom together with the grafic card I
use (ATI Xpert 2000 Pro). But there was no solution for this phenomenon,
too.

Does this give you any idea?
