I do my backups to an external USB hard disk. With W2K that took around 3 hours. After I upgraded to XP SP1 that same procedure with the same equipment initially runs at a 7 hour rate but slows to a stop after a couple of hours. I have researched performance issues with XP and made a number of the recommended changes with no improvement. It's like I am missing some cache or other setting. I cannot believe that this is normal performance.

I would appreciate any advice offered.
