defult 2 speaker on bootup

i have a 5.1 speaker system running with optic cable
on startup of win xp the speakers defult to 2 speaker desktop speakers
after i change the advance tab to 5.1 speakers and apply it will stay enabled untill
next boot then backto desktop speakers
home made system
gigabyte 7nnxp board
yamaha tss-1 5.1 digital opticial speakers
