hi just woundering if someone can help me....

after defragmenting my files i have noticed that most of my 'disk usage
seems to be in fragmented files ( red bits )...... as my free space is only
6gb from 70 gb potential, my comp is starting to be slow.. is there anyway
of removing this large fragmented section ? I have removed all unused
programes, pictures and music folders but this hasnt seemed to help much....

thanx apb

If I understand you correctly, you have a 70 gig hard drive, that is 64
gig filled. If that's right, the only way I think you can successfully
defragment completely is to dump more files/programs you don't want any
more or feel you can do without. You don't necessarily have to destroy
them - burn them to CD or copy them to a small portable drive or flash
stick. 10 gig would help, 20 gig would be a lot better. Then defrag
should run much better and do a better job of defragmenting. Defrag
needs more "elbow room" to do it's job than what it has there
(considering swap file, System Restore backups, etc).

And make a new, larger hard drive - or even a new computer - high on
your list of "things to take care of soon". If your 70 gig hard drive
has 64 gig worth of stuff on it, that computer (or drive) is too small
for your needs.

Tony

It is likely that an allocation of 12% has been made to System Restore
on your C partition which is over generous. I would reduce it to 700
mb. Right click your My Computer icon on the Desktop and select System
Restore. Place the cursor on your C drive select Settings but this
time find the slider and drag it to the left until it reads 700 mb and
exit. When you get to the Settings screen click on Apply and OK and
exit.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to
Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also
select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp,
More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System
Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy.

Hope this helps.

what might be helpful
is to do a start > run > cleanmgr

clean all the drives with
the above to ensure your
disk isn't cluttered with
trash files. this might
give you lots of free space
back and you wouldn't want
to defrag your good files
with the trash.
