Running W2K SvcPk4, on a Compaq Presario wuth 4G drive
(1.5 G free space), The system can't seem to defragment
the drive no matter how many times I run Defrag.

Any Suggestions?

There are many factors affecting the effectivenes of defragmentation process: amount of free space and total partition size, average size of a fragmented file on that partition, free space fragmentation (i.e. average size of a free space block) and some others. For example, if you have a fragmented 700 megabyte file and free space on that partition is heavily fragmented, the engine may not find a place for defragmentation temporary work data and therefore will be unable to defragment the partition completely.

This is also software-dependent, of course, as various software uses various algorithms. Cannot recommend anything specific here though - was always fine with built-in defragmenter.

Sysinternals has Contig to make contiguous files. It also has Pagedefrag which defrags
other M$ stuff. Might work better for ya...
