I cannot see any obvious problem. If you ran Disk Defragmenter I would
expect to see no files listed in the Most Fragmented Files list. You will have one fragmented file the Master File Table. which will be in 2 fragments. This is normal. The Master File Table is never included in the Most Fragmented Files list, which tends to confuse. You are told not all files have been fragmented but none are listed. -- Hope this helps. The moment you defrag, re-fragmentation already restarts. 2 - A more user-friendly defragger which actually allows you to see (and defrag) individual files is 'defraggler.exe' (get it here: http://www.defraggler.com/ -- it is freeware) It will tell you exactly which files it was unable to defrag. You may want to run the XP defragger, followed immediately by defraggler, to see which files are still fragmented. 3- I repeat point (1). Do not get obsessive about defragmentation. Doing it too often will do more harm (HDD wear) than good (0.n % improvement in speed). |

"It will tell you exactly which files it was unable to defrag." The Microsoft Disk Defragmenter does that. You just need to read the whole report and realise that the MFT Table and Pagefile are never included in the Most Fragmented file list. "You may want to run the XP defragger, followed immediately by defraggler, to see which files are still fragmented. " Defraggler is a good tool but it also does not include the MFT Table in the list! It does provide a list of all other fragmented files before defragmenting. You can also defragment individual files. It does not always work -last night in Vista it baulked at defragmenting two files.
