did you do any disk cleanup before the defrag.
you should delete the IE files, save cookies if you want.
use event viewer and clear the logs.
run disk cleanup and check all the options including the extra ones for removing all but latest restore point.
then try the defrag again.
personally I like Auslogics disk defrag instead of the xp built in one.
faster and lots of little boxes moving around.

When I defragment my Drive C it remains a lot of red (fragmented files) and
white strips in the graphic, but a litle less than before
and the Report says: "total fragmented = 16 %, file fragmented = 32% - !!
I let run the Analysis again: same stripes and the advise: "you have to
defragment..." - directly after a defrag routine
I do so – it works and works and… does nothing: same stripes, same %...
What is the problem?! What can I do?
