I found a PST file (Outlook) of 3.2 GB defragmented on my 30 GB harddrive
with 28% free space. I ran chkdsk/r several times from boot up, and DEFRAG
several times. Still the same result. Any suggestions on defragging my drive
apart from what i have done before? I can't delete the PST fiel as this
contains all my MS Outlook details.

You write "I found a PST file (Outlook) of 3.2 GB defragmented on my
30 GB harddrive." If it is already defragmented, do you want to fragment
it? If it is fragmented and if the defragger will not defrag it any further
then it probably requires no further defragging. Having all your files
completely contiguous may give you a warm feeling inside but it won't
make any measurable difference to your PC's performance. Get your
stop watch find find out for yourself!

What would happen if :
copied x->xx (os knows size so initial allocation should be
contiguous)
del x
rename xx->x

if u cant del x, u can in DOS/BartPE

Just my 2¢ worth. Larry

Any advice is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

If I were in the situation, I would use the backup pst option to another
location (not on C for my pst file. Then, proceed with defrag with
Outlook closed.
