I can't get past 13% complete when I try to defrag my

What happens at 13%, is there an error message?

For defrag to work properly, there should be no programs
running that would make any changes to the hard drive. If
you have any programs in the task tray, close anything you
don't need down first. (Should be ok to leave the virus
checker running) When a change is detected while defrag is
running, it starts again. It will start again up to I
think 5 or 10 times then it stops and tells you that it
can't continue because of this.

I admit I may be wrong about some of the specifics above
since I haven't checked if WINXP behaves like earlier
versons of defrag.

If this isn't the case, let us know what it says when it
stops at 13%. Like the other poster mentioned, it could
also be that you don't have enough free space to defrag.

Start/Run/type "chkdsk /f" (no quotation signs) and answer Y at the propmpt.
Reboot to have the disk (C checked. Try to defrag again.
