I haven't experienced you precise symptom, but I have run into defrag
problems on partitions with less than 15% free space. So, when you say you
have ~70% drivespace free, do you have only a single partition, i.e. only a
C: drive on the problem disk. If you have multiple partitions, e.g. C:, D:,
etc., ensure that you have at least 15% free on the partition you're trying
to defrag. If your partition has less than 15% free space, try moving some
data files/folders to an alternative partition.
