The past two times I have attempted to defrag I am getting
the message there are drive errors and I need to use
Scandisk about 9% of the way into the process. I have
turned off all programs and run Scandisc (even thorough)
succesfully on mutliple attempts to try to eliminate the
problem with no indication of errors or problems. My
system is sluggish and needs to be defragged. I have 65
to 75% of drivespace free. Please direct me.

Hi Dawn,

I haven't experienced you precise symptom, but I have run into defrag
problems on partitions with less than 15% free space. So, when you say you
have ~70% drivespace free, do you have only a single partition, i.e. only a
C: drive on the problem disk. If you have multiple partitions, e.g. C:, D:,
etc., ensure that you have at least 15% free on the partition you're trying
to defrag. If your partition has less than 15% free space, try moving some
data files/folders to an alternative partition.

HTH,
Richard

Run both chkdsk (not scandisk) and your defragger in "Safe" mode.
