I haven't run a defrag in a while ( I thought I had it to auto run but I was
apparently mistaken) so when I tried it doesn nothing., not even analyze the
drive.

CHKDSK runs great and I have even run an error check after shutting the
system down with no issues showing up.

Guys and gals, what in the Heck am I missing here?

Does Event Viewer have information about your problem?

Here she goes....
2 Events show up
Access to C:\WINDOWS\system32\DfrgNtfs.exe has been restricted by your
Administrator by location with policy rule
{89edb7f0-7b09-4c08-88de-cff9a2cc218b} placed on path dfrgntfs.exe

and

Access to C:\WINDOWS\system32\DfrgNtfs.exe has been restricted by your
Administrator by location with policy rule
{89edb7f0-7b09-4c08-88de-cff9a2cc218b} placed on path dfrgntfs.exe

No wait, they're both the same....

Is this computer at home or at work?

If this computer is at home, are you the second owner?

A system administrator has restricted your use of Windows defragmenter,
something commonly done for computers (previously) used in the workplace.

No, this has always been a home computer.
It has a single user identity in it.

Upon further research of the file error I found the file is related to a
WINDOWS UPDATE. (I can get the number of it if you need it. Please le tme
know)

Your help in this is greatly appreciated. This old machien has to last for
another year.

Just tried sgain and got this error in event log.

Access to C:\WINDOWS\system32\DfrgNtfs.exe has been restricted by your
Administrator by location with policy rule
{89edb7f0-7b09-4c08-88de-cff9a2cc218b} placed on path dfrgntfs.exe

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Now this file mentioned in the error msg relates to a service pack and when
I try to access it I'm not allowed permission.

The file seems to have been modified 4/18/09 in the PM.
Was there a service pack released then?
