What has happened to the defrag operation? A lot of users are experiencing
this widely spread over various operating systems. I use XP home. I use
Diskeeper made by Executive Software and it fails all the time with three
options available!
Executive softwares web site is unavailable and says it is being upgraded
for 2 hours! Ha ha!

There was really no need to buy third party software. Microsoft Disk
Defragmenter is fit for purpose. You just need to spend a little time to
understand how to get the best out of it.

Is this the problem that you're experiencing?-

<snip>
After installing SP-3 in XP Pro, an error box appears..."MMC has detected an error in
a snap-in. Recommend that you shut down and restart MMC."
It then lists 3 options: 1. Send report to Microsoft; 2. Continue running and ignore
errors for rest of session; and 3. Continue running and ignore errors with this
snap-in regardless of user session.
<end of snip>

If so,there's a hotfix available from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915797

The OP is using Diskeeper made by Executive Software! The Knowledge Base
Articles relate to the Defragmenter provided with the operating system.

Gerry-
A friend of mine is having the same problem & sent me this link:
http://www.smartcomputing.com:80/QAB...fp&qapg=1&guid

That is where I got the info for the hotfix but admit I never investigated it
thoroughly.

I see you are familiar with this issue:

Thank you-

That post was a result of researching that particular problem and not
from personal experience. I make so many posts that these things get
forgotten. I cannot say how it might impact on the current problem faced
by the OP.

Hello, the problem you are experiencing is due to a change in the
version of MMC contained in Service Pack 3. It is a non-harmful error,
and you can check the "always ignore" option without fear of damage to
your system. The message should cease to pop up and Diskeeper will
function as it should.

Later versions of Diskeeper have the updated MMC information. We offer
full functioning trials on our website if you would like to try the
latest version of Diskeeper.

Executive Software changed it's name to Diskeeper a little over 3 years
ago. The link that you using may no longer be valid.

Here is the current web site: http://diskeeper.com/

If you ever have any questions, or are having any problems with the
software, please feel free to contact us. We have one of the best Tech
Support staffs and will quickly and diligently to find a solution.
