Defrag / Chkdsk problem

When I try to defrag my hard drive I get a message the
Chkdsk is scheduled and to run chkdsk /f.

When I type this into the Start/Run window it asks me if
I want to schedule this to run when I reboot and I type Y
and press enter. However, when I reboot chkdsk does not
run and I still get the same message when I try to run
defrag.

I've looked in "scheduled tasks" but it isn't there.
And, I've tried adding c:\windows\system32\chkdsk.exe /f
to the AUTOEXEC.bat but it still doesn't run.

Can someone tell me how to get chkdsk /f to run at bootup
manually maybe? So I can get defrag to run.

Thanks.

Wally

Try typing:cmd In run,in cmd type:CHKDSK /REVERT
This cmd restores to default settings, you can also try:
DEFRAG C: Typing CHKDSK /? Gets you the info on running
CHKDSK at every start-up.

Thanks, Andrew. But the problem is still present. I
only saw the different switch setting with the /?
and /RESET seemed to go but didn't make any difference.
There is a period of blank screen during bootup though.

Do you have ZoneAlarm 5 ??

[[Since the new version 5.0 of TrueVector accesses the disk so early in the
boot-sequence, CHKDISK
cannot run with the /F option at boot-time, because it needs to access the
disk directly.]]

Uninstall ZA5 and install an earlier version.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Update to ZoneAlarm 5 yesterday (6/21) that is supposed to address V5
preventing CHKDSK from running at boot time.
