This is really weird. How can two different definitions versions have the
same KB# at the Windows Update site? I just took a look at my update
history listing and it shows both Definitions 1.14.1436.4 and 1.14.14512.3 as
KB915597 and shows that I have successfully gotten them both! How can they
both have the same KB#? Hold on, the plot thickens. Defender GUI HelpAbout
screen still shows 1.14.1436.44 but after clicking the Checkfor Updates
button and says I'm up to date, that number does not change! What I do know
for certain is that Control Panel Add/Remove does not show KB915597 at all!!!
I tried removing the current signature file via MS Article 915105
instructions and then updating again, but no go. WindowsUpdate thinks I
already have them and clicking the Check for Updates button in the program
doees too! Need some help here. Could all this be happening because the two
definitions version should perhaps NOT have the same KB# on WindowsUpdate
site? Have no clue as to what else to try to get met updated to 1.14.1452.3
defs.

I have exactly the same problem with KB915597, I have downloaded and
installed it about 10 times. But defender keeps telling me that I haven't
updated my definitions and asking to install the update over and over.

I have also followed the MS 915105 steps to try and fix it, but as yet no
luck. After deleting the signature file, update doesn't locate an available
update...I agree with you, it is really weird.

The only thing left is to uninstall and re install defender but I would
rather have the problem resolved.

Is this happening to all defender beta users ? Or just a small number.

I hope there is an answer out there somewhere.

Steve

Well, today I think, and I stress THINK, I successfully updated to 1.14.1452
defenitions. Just went back to WindowsUpdate and clicked express install and
today it says I still need that update. Clicked install and site said
successfully updated my computer (but then so did it yesterday!!). Rebooted
and check WinDefender GUI help/about button and now it is showing I have the
latest 1.14.1452 defs. Interesting, though, is that Add/Remove remains
stubborn and still does not show KB#915597 with today's date as it should. I
give up. I'm just going to assume I'm up to date until WinDefender alerts to
tell me I'm NOT!
