Definitions update on PC managed by SMS

When I check for new definitions I get the error message 0X8024002b. I have
deleted and reinstalled the program and followed troubleshoting guidance
without success.

I have followed the advice in the KBase, but my PC is managed by our
corporate SMS server, so Windows Update is not allowed to run.

How do I get definition updates?

My knowledge of SMS is near nil. I think that it may be version dependent.
It looks to me as though SMS 2003 should have the capability to distribute
Windows Defender signatures, if enabled by the administrators, so you might
make that request.

Otherwise, I think Engel has point you in the available direction.

I also received this error message 0x80242002b
error message when attempting a " Check for Updates" from the help about
button; turning the Windows firewall off did not help; so I put my Ethereal
Sniffer to work and found the issue.
The request wasnt going to Microsoft via the web but to our Micrososft SUS
server for the update; poor programming for this piece of code!
I think it should try the SUS or WUS first and then attempt a WEB update if
it cannot locate a Signature update on a SUS or WUS server because Signature
updates are most likely not going to affect the OS; where SUS and WUS servers
help us to check important Microsoft Patches before deployment.

Thats my two cents!

Well - perspectives differ. Your network admins may feel that they are
enforcing corporate policy by only patching "allowed" apps--and thus don't
want patches which haven't been tested and approved for use on the corporate
network being distributed.

Windows Defender definitions MAY be distributed via WSUS (and, by extension,
SMS, I believe)--if the administrators approve them.
