So far today on EIGHT separate occasions , I have tried to install Def Update
1.1.1286.1 KB915597 because the little shield on mysystem tray tells me to
doso. It installs and a few minutes later the shield reappears. There are
other recurring problems that I will be reporting but my basic questions is
----

Is anyone from Microsoft monitoring this and taking action on all the
problems being reported here????

John,

I'm having the identical problem!! Installed the Def Update six times with
the same results. I then uninstalled Windows Defender and downloaded and
installed it again thinking there was a corrupt file. However, the same
thing has happened so for the time being, I just uninstalled Win Defender
until there's a fix.

So that John doesn't feel alone and MS knows this is not a one person
problem. I have experienced the exact update issue described by John.

In general, the fix that I believe works are the steps in this KB article.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915105/en-us

I realize that this may be a temporary fix, and that, for some, the problem
recurs.

Microsoft does read these groups and is aware of the issue.

Bill,

After jumping through frustrating, useless hoops for most of the day, I used
your recommended fix and it worked like a charm! Should this glitch reoccur,
will let everyone know. Many thanks!
