Happy New Year!
Windows Defender appears to have expired on Jan1. It works when I set back
the date.
Trying to do an update I get a message: "Validation Incomplete: Internet
Connection Problem"
Internet connection is OK ( IE and Outlook are working fine).
My XP-home/SP-2 is legal and registered.

That was the Beta version that expired. See here to download the current
version:

Defender Beta versions "may" get labeled as expired. Remove and get
the official release of Defender.

This has been asked numerous times recently. You should scan posts for
similars before asking. Also there are Defender newsgroups were Defender
questions should be asked.

Thanks, but I've tried everything including now uninstalling Defender and
trying to install it from scratch. I can't get past the "Validation
Incomplete: Internet Connection Problem" screen.
I have no problem getting any other Windows XP updates.

Appears to be an XP OS problem when it tells me that it can't Validate the
Win XP installation.
Also, searching for 'Defender' under newsgroups here produces zero.
