i installed the new build an updated without problems ( i never had problems
that way).
but my problem remains in the new build , the msmpeng (real time protection
of defender and symantec resource protection are having problems , as
reported already in detail in this newsgroups.

I understand this is a beta , but can somebody from microsoft tell me if
they are still investigating this problem in compaigon together with symantec
?

and iff the confilt has bad influences for my system ?

thanks microsoft in advance for an answer.

Joris - Microsoft is indeed investigating this interaction.

Can you give a step-by-step to reproduce the problem you are seeing?

Pretend that you are starting with a fully updated install of whatever
Windows version is involved, and go from there--give as much detail about
the Symantec end of things as possible--precise version number, a link to
the product on the web, perhaps a link to a trial download if possible, and
the steps to configure it if the problem doesn't arise with the default
configuration.

You can post here, or email me with it--remove the stuff past .com in my
posting address for a valid address.

I think there is more than one Norton version that sees this issue, but I
haven't seen it first hand myself--apparently I don't have any customers
using the latest and greatest--so I can't describe this in detail myself.

It finally appears that Microsoft has considered this issue that concerns the
Symantec/Norton 2005 and 2006 products with "Resource protector".
Thanks also to Joris with his perseverance in this newsgroup.

So--about this issue--can somebody tell me what the range of "symptoms" are?
How do you become aware of the problem?

My system: Windows XP sp2 fully updated
my AV: Norton Antivirus 2005

If "Symantec Resource Protector" has turned on, besides the appearance of
the logs of access not authorized, as soon as windows has started, the icon
tray of Norton Antivirus immediately appears with a red cross (the real time
protection isn't active); then, only after some minutes, everything returns
normal and Norton becomes active.
So, during this time, I can use the pc, but without an antivirus protection.

I checked the Norton Logs to understand this fact.

Clearly, if "Symantec Resource Protector" has turned off, there is not any
problem.

with me its for the moment only in the log of the symantec resource
protection , if you want it to go away you can do 2 things ;

1. shut down the symantec resource protector , but this is not a good idea
because all virusses and malwares are now able to shut down youre
antivirus....

2. shut down the real-time protection from defender and use it only as a on
demand scanner , but then you can also instal the free version of ad-aware
because there is no real-time protection anymore and the benefits of defender
are gone....

At first when i installed my defender and norton 2006 (at the same time ) i
had similar problems like mecs problems , no red cross for me but my norton
protection shuts also down after starting my computer , seen by removel of
the protection center icon below... only option to fix this was to
double-click on my norton picture on the desktop and the protection center
repairs itself...

I hav now reinstalled by norton and also my defender and the only issue now
are the log problems in the symantec resource protector...

But i am not sure there are no bad side effects for my computer heald , i
dont think the log problem is harmless , because there is no other program
trying to log in to norton.

The log problem only appears with the real-time protection , the msmpeng
console , when i do a quick scan or full scan there is no interaction....
i becaome aware off the problem also by investigation of my problems and so
i have found the symantec resource protection module and looked at the logs

Thanks, mec and Joris--for taking the time to provide the details. I don't
know more about this issue, but I know that Microsoft is aware of it. Some
things can take a long time to resolve, however.
