I have Windows 7 and I'm told that Defender and Mcafee anti-virus will slow
performance if both installed. Is this true? If so, how do I uninstall or
disable Defender?

Oranges and Apples

Mcafee anti-virus is an anti-virus (only)

Windows Defender is an antispyware

Disable Windows Defender?

This is how you do it:

Launch Windows Defender and go to Tools -> Options.

Here you will find a lot of configuration options. Scroll down to the end of
the list. You will find there a section called Administrator options.
Deselect the Use Windows Defender box and press the Save button.

If UAC is turned on, you will need to confirm that you want to continue with
the change.

Now you will receive a notification saying that "Windows Defender is turned
off". Click on Close and you are done.

My fault for being misleading. I should have said that I have Mcafee security
suite, which includes spyware. I've followed the instructions and
turned off Defender, just in case. thanks very much.--
