Everytime i try to install the newer version of what came with my vista home
premium a box comes up and says i don't need to install !!!! YES I DO !!! I
want the newer version and some lame software developers at MS did'nt make
the option available although they put the newer version on the download
section !

Go to Start.- All Programas.- and double click in Windows Defender.

When the interface open. Go to Help and look under About Windows Defender.

Please post , the top most of the three version numbers

What version are you now showing? Mine indicates

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1505.0
Engine Version: 1.1.2405.0
Definition Version: 1.17.2444.9

Does that check out with you?

Any clues in the System events log you can see?

Is this a home machine, or one used in an office?

Is your clock and time zone set properly?

Are you running WU/MU automatic/manual, what is your config?
