If you receive an error message when trying the steps in this article,
there's a further step to try:
Download the Windows Installer Cleanup tool:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;290301
install it, and run it from the start, all programs menu. Look down the
list and find Windows Defender Signatures--remove that item
Then proceed to try updating again.
