Defender not starting in 7 Beta

Every time I start up my machine (Windows 7 beta build 7000), I get a message
in the action Centre that Defender is not running or something along those
lines and to click the balloon to start it and after clicking there, Defender
starts up and runs fine.

I haven't done anything after installing Windows 7 and it has always been
like this. Is anyone else getting this message? And is there anything that
can be done to just have Defender start normally and automatically at Windows
start-up?

UPDATE

I've noticed now that if I do nothing after I get the notification from
Action Center, Defender starts up fine if I wait about 10 seconds or so.
Maybe it's just that Defender isn't starting up fast enough which triggers
the notification in AC. I did look under Services.msc and saw Defender has
"Delayed Start" enabled. Maybe I should try a normal start for Defender and
see if that helps.

Hello Rob,

I suggest, read the section Testing the Windows 7 Beta

<http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-faq.aspx>

You can report any *confusing or annoying* features.

Good luck

I wouldn't change that for the time being. Wait a bit and I'll wake up my
desktop which is running Windows 7 and see how that service is set--delayed
start may be the normal setting.

Was this an upgrade, or a clean install?

I've checked (now writing from Windows 7) and automatic(delayed) seems to be
the normal startup for Windows Defender--so I'd not change that.

also a suggestion would be to go to the windows 7 forums and ask there since
windows defender has changed a lot from vista and you might find others who
can also help you
it is http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...egory/w7itpro/
but you will have to set up a technet username and password account to type
here but you can read all that is written and it is a lot.

I get the same thing. I also get a notification that Avira AntiVir at the
same time saying the same thing. I do nothing and then check and it's ok. I
believe it's a bug in the Win 7 OS.

I have no problem running AntiVir Free Edition. I did a full scan and it ran
fine. It updates great. It's always running but at startup it notification
says it's off. I do nothing and check the action center. It says it's good.

Hello ALL and Engel,

I have had no issues with Defender and WIN 7. The AV product that is running
on my PC with WIN 7 is Esets NOD32.

The Microsoft WIN 7 site suggests three products to use with the Beta.
