If your not running OneCare, maybe the easiest thing to try as a solution
would be to take a look here for information about a potential WMI
repository inconsistency:

On Vista this is a relatively easy fix if in fact your WMI database is
broken, so at least give the verifyrepository command a shot.
Another caution, although having no bearing on your current problem, is to
make sure you don't use CCleaner to clean Applications > Utilities >
Windows Defender (uncheck it) because doing so will cause Defender to loose
track of it's scan history, and report that you haven't scanned your system
recently.
