When I run Defender it found 3 hits to be removed. However when I try to
remove them I get an ox8050800c error: Unexpected error. it prompts me to
look for updates, in which there are none?

Any suggestions?

Hello Steve,

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
adinistratºr.
This is the key!

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

There are many pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and
signature update with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs?

Latest version is as follows:
Jue 1 Jun 2006
WD v. 1.1.1347.0
Engine v. 1.1.1441.0
Signature v. 1.14.1471.6

If the WD v. is diferentVersion 1.1.1347.0, please install:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Users who normally select advanced Spynet membership should be aware that
the install process will set you back to basic membership, so it's a good
idea to revisit both the Spynet membership area of Tools, and the Options
area--to see what's different, and check that your old choices have been
preserved.

Be sure you have installed Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºst.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Hi Steve,

Would you please post the details of the detections? Then we may be able to
run down what's wrong here.

Regards,
Joe

Steve--just to expand on how to find the details:

One way is to go to the System event log, and View Filter it on source
WinDefend. Look for records at the time of the scan that show the original
detection. There's a cut and paste button in the log viewer to paste them
back to this thread.

Hi Steve,

if somebody install Bearshare p2p than you can uninstall it with
Add/remove software.
Bearshare don't install out of the air or clicking on a site, you must
download and install it just by yourself!
So do you have a kid at home he/she probely install it!
