I'm new to this discussion board and also a new Defender user. First of all,
I'm a huge fan of Microsoft products. I'm currently running Windows XP Pro
and Internet Explorer. I'm really happy with Defender and have it scheduled
to run automatically at 6:00 PM on Sunday evenings. Tonight is the first
time the schedule was to take effect (6:00 PM) and as I sat here and watched,
nothing happened. Any suggestions? I saved changes after setting the
schedule.

Start the ui, and watch for a bit and see whether it shows the scan in
progress.

Run task manager, and look for mpcmdrun.exe running.

Scan in progress isn't showing and task manager doesn't show mpcmdrun.exe
running.

Hi Bill, Doug,

I have the same issue.....had WD for a few days and it hasnt run a scheduled
scan once as far as I can tell from the UI, eventlog, windowsUpdate.log etc

I have noticed also that if I change the scheduled time I sometimes get a
popup on the taskbar indicating there has been a change to WD config, other
times no popup! The eventlog does reflect a change was made though......

Sounds like a bug to me

Just found another post that explains a probable cause......Task Scheduler
needs to be enabled and the service needs to be running as the daily scan is
a hidden task. It can be found by opening the scheduled task folder from the
control panel, click Advanced on the menus and click Show Hidden Tasks....the
"MP Sceduled Scan" task appears........

I have some feedback for the Beta....DONT MAKE IT HIDDEN

You can see whether the job is present in the Windows Scheduler, at least,
on XP:

control panel, maintenance, scheduled tasks, advanced, show hidden jobs.

Look for a job running mpcmdrun.exe

you can also run mpcmdrun.exe yourself--the syntax is given if you run it
with no parameters.

Is the windows scheduler disabled?

I'm having the same problem with scheduling a scan. Everything is ok with
the task scheduler. I tried running the file 'mpcmdrun.exe' and I see a box
starting to open and then disappearing very quickly. Could the file be
corrupted?

This is a command prompt app--if you run it using start, run, you won't see
anything useful.

You need to do start, run, cmd <enter>
and then run it at the command prompt to see the help in the file for the
syntax. Run by itself with no arguments it will just give its syntax and
exit.

I found this document:

steps 4-7, I now can run a scheduled scan. I was told that even though the
document was written for W2K, the instructions in 4-7 would work for those of
us with XP and they were right.
