DefaultDomainName and AltDefaultDomainName

In HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Winlogon there are
the string values DefaultDomainName and DefaultUserName,
which have the username and domain of the last user to log
onto the machine. Two further values AltDefaultDomainName
and AltDefaultUserName are also present, holding the same
values as the first pair. They seem to be ignored - the
non-alt pair take precedence if you change them so they
have different values.

I was just wondering what these alt- values are
for, if anything?
