If I don't want indexing then I need to uncheck the box in drive
properties that reads "Allow Indexing Service".

How can I change the setting for a new partition so that the indexing
service defaults to "NO"?

Jim,

Why not disable the indexing service?

Click START
Click CONTROL PANEL
Click ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS
Click SERVICES
Right-click INDEXING SERVICE & click STOP
Now, double-click it & choose STARTUP TYPE | DISABLED

Exit back to Desktop

I hope this helps,

Hello, Jim
Why not just go to Local Services [Winkey + R, then "services.msc"]
and make sure the Indexing Svc is [a] stopped, and [b] set to
Disabled?
(just a thought)
