Default Template Problem

I have a user that is trying to make changes to the default template, but it
is not keeping the changes. If I delete the normal.dotm, restart Word, then
make changes, it keeps them. But if I close Word, reopen it, and try to make
changes, it does not work. It will only change it the first time. I have
checked the file and folder permissions to make sure the user has "modify"
rights. I have tried it under the administrator account and it does the same
thing, so it is not a profile issue. It is only happening on this user's PC.
I am at a loss, so any help would be appreciated.

Can you expand on the changes you are trying to make? It could be they
aren't stored in the Normal template.

She is changing the default font and the line spacing...Those are definitely
in the default template.

First, to verify the change is actually being saved in the Normal template,
click the Office Button, click Word Options, and in the Advanced section
(under Save) turn on "Prompt before saving Normal template". Then instead of
opening the Normal template, click the dialog box launcher in the Paragraph
group, make your modifications, and then click the Default button at the
bottom. After you confirm the change, exit Word and you should be prompted
to save changes to the Normal template. If you don't encounter the prompt
then it could be a third-party add-in, such as an Adobe add-in, is
preventing the changes from actually being saved.

Thank you! I went into Add\Remove Programs and modified the Adobe 7 Pro
installation. I took out the PDF maker for Word 2007 and that fixed it!

You’re welcome. I'm glad to hear you have the issue resolved. :-)

I had a feeling it might be the Adobe PDFMaker add-in. It's known to discard
changes to your Normal template when you exit Word. I think the latest
update doesn't cause this issue so if you need Adobe then that's something
you may want to look into. Also note if all you need to create is a PDF file
then you can use Word's PDF functionality found under the Office Button and
Save As.

The Adobe 7 add-in is not compatible with Word 2007. You need at least
version 8.
The Adobe 7 'printer' driver should work, but you would get similar results
using the PDF add-in for Office 2007 from Microsoft.
