I have already installed my Windows XP Professional next to the my old
Windows 98.

Normally when my computer starts up I take the screen:
'Please select the operating system to start'
1.Microsoft Windows XP Professional
2.Microsoft Windows

Is it possible to change this configuration from 2-1.

Thanks.

Go to Start > Run and type in: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the Boot.ini tab, then click once on the boot.ini file
you wish to have as your default, then click on "Set as Default".

Hi Me,

Yes, you can edit the boot.ini file and place the reference to Windows 98
above the reference to Windows XP.

To open the boot.ini file, boot into XP, right-click on My Computer, select
Properties>Advanced tab and in the Startup and Recovery section click on the
Settings button. In the next window, click on the Edit button beside where
it says "To edit the startup options file manually, click Edit". This opens
the boot.ini file in Notepad.

Under the heading [operating systems] you should see something like this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows"

Move the
C:\="Microsoft Windows" so that it's above the
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

Go to File>Save then File>Exit

When you restart, the reference to Microsoft Windows (i.e., Windows 98)
should be the first in the boot menu.

Regards,
