What controls the size of a new window when I open one, for example using
'Open in new Window'? I'm sure I've seen an option somewhere to (for
example) open all new windows maximised, but I can't find it anywhere...
Come on all you MVP's out there... ;-)

You first - Outlook version???? Open what in new window? New instance of an
Outlook folder? What have you already tried?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact.

After furious head scratching, browniebodrum asked:

Outllook 2003; Let's say I've got one window open showing Inbox and I want to
open 'Contacts' as well, in a second window. Using the right mouse button to
select 'Open in New Window', and clicking on 'Contacts' in the folder list in
the left-hand pane, Contacts DOES 'Open in New Window' but it always opens
too small to be able to enter anything in the Contacts 'Search' box without
first enlarging the Contacts window. If I minimise the new Contacts window
and then open it again by clicking on it its tab in the Task Bar, it
'remembers' the enlarged size, but once I CLOSE the window, Outlook 'forgets'
what size it was. I saw a reference in another posting to using File/Exit to
close Outlook but this doesn't make any difference. Does that give you
enough info to know what I'm talking about? Thanks in advance.

This was a tricky one for me also. I kept banging my head saying, "gosh, I
*should* be remembering the setting". But then I realized, it will remember
the setting of the last window you close...and the last window that is
actually being closed, is the main Outlook window .

So, do this:
1. Launch Outlook
2. Restore so that it's not maximized
3. Size it to biggest screen you can (do not maximize through button)
4. Close Outlook.

And you're done. Next time you open outlook (even if maximized) and you do
a Open in New Window, it'll open it at that larger size.

Hope this helps!

Hi JC and thanks for your reply. I hadn't had chance to check out your
posting until today but by coincidence, the window size righted itself in the
meantime. So, discretion and all that, I'm not going to fiddle with it, but
I am sure you are right, and I will save your instructions as a crib-sheet
for next time I screw it up. Thanks again.
