Default size of new folders

Hello;

When I create a new folder on the desktop in XP Pro, and
then open the folder, the size of the window is always
maximized. I prefer the "restore down" size. I cannot
find any info on how XP decides the default size of
folders. XP will remember the new size I picked, but I
would rather have it in the "restore down" size from the
get-go. BTW, I am using "classic" views for all settings.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Fred,

Which other sizes are you other Desktop folders or the last one opened? In
the meantime, size the window to your preference using the double-arrow then
use File/Close or Exit, not the red X or any of the other two buttons (min
or max).

Hi Kelly;

I'm not sure what you mean by your first question, but XP
will remember my preference after I've set it. I just
would like XP to open the folder so it doesn't fill the
screen by default. Right now, I have to go into each
folder and click on the middle button (restore down) to
get the size I want. Is there some way (I would imagine
in the registry) to get XP to create a folder in that
smaller view size?

Thanks, Fred

Hi Fred,

It depends on the sizes of the other shortcuts on your Desktop. If my first
post hasn't helped:

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Windows Explorer/View/[Select Accordingly]. Then Tools/Folder
Options/View/Apply to All Folders.

Hi Kelly;

Actually, I had already downloaded and installed that
registry tweak from your website before starting this
post. The issue is not that XP "forgets" the size, but
what determines the initial size? I can set all folders
on my desktop to the size I prefer, but when I create a
new folder, it always starts out maximized. It seems
there is a default size of maximized when you create a new
folder. I would like to change that.

Thanks again, Fred
