Hey there,
As I have not always had control of the network, finding a curious thing
happening when trying to manage and deploy microsoft security patches.
The management software I use insists that the default share (C$) be
available on the remote PCs that I'm trying to deploy the patches to.
However, on some occasions the default share does not exist. My suspicion is
that soon after the XP PCs were received, the default share was renamed
simply to C and then the PCs were told not to share the hard drive.
If I try and create a new share, and name it C$, it is fine until the PC is
rebooted (as sometimes must occur with new patches being installed) then the
C$ share disappears and I can no longer scan the PCs remotely to see if they
need updating.
Short of reinstalling Windows from scratch, is there some way that I can
bring the default share back without it disappearing again all the time?
