If I enter something on the address line of IE 6 that is not a URL, it automatically goes to Google and does a search. With someone else I know the same things happens except that IE goes to MSN Search. What controls this? I can't find any parameters in Internet Options.

With the Search pane open (IE> View> Explorer Bars> Search) click on the
Customize button. I think the setting you're looking for is Autosearch.
Click on the Autosearch button to see the options.
