ISTR that in Word 2003 just clicking the print icon on the toolbar would
print using the default (or most recently used?) printer.

Now I'm using 2007. Still under XP.
I have a QA bar with printer icon but it just brings up the printer dialog
box. Is there a way to have quick-print, without having to keep selecting
the printer if you're just using the same one, as there used to be?

Perhaps you have customized the QAT? It would seem you must have because
Quick Print is the default QAT button; to get a button that opens the Print
dialog, you would have to have added it.

Add the Quick Print command to the QAT.

Thank you.
I had added the regular print icon instead of quick print. I didn't know
about quick-print & was doing the customizing from the 'all commands' list
as several things I wanted weren't on the short-lists (most popular? or
whatever) -- and since they're listed alphabetically q-p isn't near the
'print' choice. If you don't know something exists it's hard to go looking
for it.

I've got *most* of Word07 working the way I want but do keep finding
landmines. Things that work *sort of* the way they used to but have been
<bleeping> "improved" -- and either don't have (because MS thinks you
shouldn't want it & *certainly* should do it that way) or I can't find a way
to make them work IMO "properly". I've been doing a lot of brute-force
managing these past few months just to get simple tasks done.
<grump mode off>

Thanks again.

My point was that you shouldn't have to add Quick Print to the QAT, as it is
one of the buttons that is on the QAT by default.

Well, either I deleted it by mistake early on, or some gremlin stole it.

Since I only stumbled across the QAT because I saw an article about it come
to my user-group editor's article file offering, I was just glad to have
*anything* to help me get the job done; I still have beaucoup trouble with
the Ribbon -- I don't seem to think the MS way.
Thanks.

The only way I actually know that it's on there by default (aside from the
fact that I wouldn't have added it, I think) is that it's shone (a version
of it, anyway) in the "Welcome to the 2007 Microsoft Office system" guide at
http://blogs.msdn.com/jensenh/archiv...31/611552.aspx or
http://blogs.vertigosoftware.com/jat...heatsheet.aspx,
which I keep on my copy stand because it has a screen shot of the Ribbon
that I find helpful for reference in helping users.

Quite a lot of folks, me included, have that problem...
This last incarnation of Word (7) will be my last. I shall still have to
use it for work stuff, but that ribbon thing is beyond a joke... I shan't
be purchasing any more versions.

All I can say is... Good job this NG exists, otherwise I'd have disposed
of Word 7 a few weeks after purchasing it.

So at least thanks for the NG and the advice therein folks.

Word 7 came out in 1994 (Word for Windows 95). The one with the Ribbon is
Word 2007.

Yup! I know, and I realised it about 30 seconds after posting... ;-)

But I still don't like the ribbon... :-)~
