I have an IBM ThinkPad T42 which I take home every evening but haven’t
plugged it into my home network in weeks. My home network does have an HP
DeskJet 6840 connected to it.

Anyway, my problem is, when I go to Start>Settings>Printers & Faxes and
right-click on my office printer (HP OfficeJet 7410) and select "Set as
default printer" it stays with that printer only as long as I’m connected to
the network. Once I disconnect and reconnect, the default printer has
“defaulted” to the other printer. What doesn’t the default stay on the
printer I have selected as default? I’ve never seen this behavior before.

You cannot change that feature..... XP likes to have a printer installed.
If the installed printer cannot be found, it will look for another one.

Okay, I'll learn to live with it. Thanks for your reply.
