I've installer windows 2000 server in network environnement for
Ressources (his, print, files , sql...)
i've created lot of printers (hp, lexmark...) all of them are Shared
When i create printer on this server the default paper size is letter
, but i'm located in France and i need to change EVERY printer in A4
format.
But, whe a client try to Connect to printer, by default the paper size
on the workstation change again to letter... , so unable to print
correctly.
Coul you please give me help to change definitively the paper size to
A4
for information Windows 2000 is UK Version (server and pro)
Tks a lot
Christophe

The default paper size is and should be controlled by the application. The
server does not (and should not) override the workstation, since the user
should have total control over what is printed. (The printer should not
override the application either.) IOW, you must ensure that every
application on every workstation is set to A4 as default. And that every user
knows how to set and reset paper sizes as needed. And that every user will
ensure that default is reset when an oddball printing job is finished -
that's the most difficult parrt of your task. :-)

BTW, a server-side override would also require a server-side reformat of all
printed output to the standard size - a very hairy problem IMO.

I experience this also. With regards to Application like MS Access for
example, every time I print report, I always change the printer paper size
from Letter to A4. How can I set to MS Access to use A4 as default paper
size?

The problem is because of diferent driver version in server and workstation.
Wht to do:

1.delete the printer (local)
2.restart spooler service
3.delete the driver from Printers->File->Server Properties->Drivers
4. install printer from server
5. set proper size of paper in printer Properties->Advanced->Default
printing properties (or sth like that)

good luck
