Default name when publishing

It's a minor point, but: When I execute the Publish Web command, the default
name that comes up is the one I started with years ago, and which continues
to be the default through every FP upgrade regardless of several Web hosting
service changes and new usernames. Is there a way to change that default
name for publishing?

Thanks very much.

If the remote server has the FP extensions, then during publishing FP will
automatically change the name required by the remote server (This is the
first name that appears in the default document list for the server you are
publishing to).

Each web host determines the default document names they will support on
their servers.

You can right click the file in Folder View and then rename.

I'm afraid I don't understand this. The remote server does have the
extensions, but doesn't make the change you describe.

The name I have to use is not a standard one, but a variation on my personal
name assigned to me by the Web hosting service. It works fine, and all I'm
trying to do is have it come up as the default when I execute Publish Web.

Which file are you referring to? The highest-level name of the local copy of
my site is just "FrontPage Webs," and bears no relation to the name asked
for by the host.

Thanks.

Each web site must have a default document, such as index.htm(L),
default.htm(L) etc.

If the remote server doesn't have the FP extensions, then you have to rename
default.htm or index.htm to the name required by your host. The only way you
can set this in FP, is if you have a web server installed on your local
machine, then you can set the name you want as the default, by enter it and
then moving it so that it is the item in the list of default document. This
would be done under IIS MMC for the specific web site.

If you are working with a disk-based web, then you have to rename the file
to what is required by your host, again only needed if publishing to a
server that does not have the FP extensions via FTP.

When you publish to the server with FP extensions, the extensions will
rename the default document to what is required on the server (this is the
first name in the default document list that the host has set for your
account) you are publishing to, you have no control over this.

If you want a specific default document name, you have to contact your host
and have the enter that name and make it the first one in the list of
default documents for your account.

I believe he is talking about username for access to his website when
publishing, not the name of the file...

If you mean the one that displays
in the User Name portion of the password applet,
the answer is No. That name is derived from
your domain name when the account is created.

You might ask your host if it can be changed, but it
is a "server user name" not FrontPage. Also the password
applet is initiated by the server.

You understood my question correctly, Steve, but: The name that appears as
the default in the password applet has not changed over several FrontPage
upgrades and three changes in Web hosting service. So that means that it's
baked into either my local FP or the copy of my Website that's out on the
server. I suspect the former, because why would the remote site supply a
default in an applet that's suppose to ensure security? Then again, I think
that the default was the original user name so maybe it is a function of the
hosted site, in which case it would seem out of the control of the hosting
service.

Thanks.
