default multiple copies to non default printer

I want to force a printer shared from a win 2k server to print 2 copies
when selected.
If the printer is made the default windows printer this works as
expected. If it is a printer other than the default printer the number
of copies is changed to 1. Other printer preferences that was modified
on the printer remain selected, but the copies are changed back to 1.

System: Win xp pro sp2 or win 2K pro

any help would be appreciated.
