I have just reformatted and re-installed Wndows XP on my computer and the
strangest thing has happened.
I cannot dreate and network connection not is there the default network
connection available. Yet, I am still able to connect to other computers on
my network and access the internet. Though I have been able to update XP with
all updates available I connot update some of the drivers which Windows
update has posted on the sight. I am also not able to start Windows
Firewall/ICS option.
When trying to start it using Administrative tools/services I get the
following Error message: Could not start fireewall/Internet Connection
Sharing(ICS) service on local Computer. ERROR: 0x80004003: Invalid Pointer.

Also when I was reinstalling XP Pro I got a couple of error messages saying
some of the files could not be read but gave me an option to retry. after
retry to each file with the message, it seemed to correct and move on with
the installation.

Plus I can not install the Office Pro Ed 2003

What could be causing this problem?
My system specs are:
ASUS motherboard A7N8X-X with Athon XP + 1800
1 Gbts Memory
