Is there a quick and easy way of applying a default format to a chart (axis
font size, background colour, title font size etc) other than using a macro?
If not, could anyone suggest a suitable portion of VBA code that i could
modify to suit my formatting needs?

Set up the default chart the way you like it to look.

Make sure the chart is active.

Menu Bar > Chart > Chart Type

Select Custom Types, click User Defined radio button, and click o
Add.

Give your Custom Chart a name that makes sense.

Click on Set as Default, and future charts will default to thi
setting.

A word of caution, the chart title will fill in as you have in th
default, the axis scale minimum, maximum, major unit, etc will all b
set to what you set up in the default chart. Virtually all of th
settings will be set to your original chart.

Have several user defined charts, so you can select the one that fit
the situation and set it as the default for a given situation.

You can insert a button on the Standard (or Formatting) Toolbar tha
will change an active chart to the current default chart type.

If you don't know how to do this, right-click on any toolbar and selec
customize. Select Commands > Charting and scroll down to find th
Default Chart icon. Drag it to your toolbar and close the customiz
dialog box
