Default font color will not lock in... Help!

This is getting me nuts... When I generate a new mail, the color of the
character’s default color always returns to be such (probably white) that I
cannot see the text, I must select the text and change the color each time..

This is something that began with 2007 install...

I’ve tried going into the options menu, “fonts” and changing it there... No
help.
Also on the options tab, themes, no help...

Pls help...
