Sometimes when I go into Contacts, (I use Category view) all of the
categories are expanded. I did nothing to expand them and it is a pain as I
have to go in and collapse all categories. Is there a way to keep this from
happening?

Not the answer you're looking for, but you can collapse all the groups by a
right-click on just one group header, then choose the first command.
