I placed this posting in excel forum. there has been no reply. I am placing it here. any advice? thanks.

I have excel version windows xp excel 2002 and also excel 2007. I have configured so that I can manually open any .xls file either with excel 2002 or 2007. But I would like to configure so that when I double click a .xls file it should open only excel 2002. That is excel 2002 must be my default version. At present if I double click an excel file it opens automatically in ecel 2007. I shall be obliged to have suggestions. thanks

Hi venkat1926

If you hold down shift and right click on an .xls file, then click "open with" and browse to the Excel 2002 application exe and select that. Be sure to tick the box to remember this selection so that it will open all xls files in Excel 2002 in future.
