I had a virus attack post which performed a recovery with ERD
Commander (newer version post Microsoft acquisition). I have few
control panel items appearing in Czech and occasionally some window
appear completely in Czech.

Desktop, windows firewall and network setup wizard appear in Czech.
This might be a clue, indicating something related to networking is
corrupted.

The virus attack is cleaned up and extensively tested as problem free
now.

I have checked a whole bunch of language, keyboard, display,
appearance settings. I don't find anything unusual.

I feel the suspect areas might be:
Windows Symbols (used during ERD commander recovery)
Window Cab files (used during ERD commander recovery)
True type fonts>> I notice the European fonts are not true type.
This might be a remote possibility.

Possible recovery would be to perform Win XP repair, this will be my
last option.

My default Windows XP SP2 installation is English. Current version
status build 2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300

There isn't any information available how to correct this problem.

Open ctrl panel,select "reginal & language" icon,set to english.....

the settings in regional languages is English. I have spent
significant amount of time researching online and checking the usual
suspects. I have not found answers yet.

Maybe if you do a regedit search for "Czech", "cz", or any other
abbreviation for that language.. Possibly a comparison can be made
between that registry and one unaffected by malware.

I checked the registry for cs value, czech, slovakia etc.... Did not
find any unusual values. All the values found appear in telephony,
global languague list, keyboard layout folders. The value is not
found in isolation or a critical XP folder in the hives.

Sorry, no other ideas. If you can be assured of the language used, you
might try a Google Groups search on the subject. Change the parameters
of the search to limit or expand the results.

I have tried the search, found few interesting leads, but no clear
answer yet.

I had the same problem and I simply repaired Windows and everything went back
to normal
