You cannot play DVDs without a decoder.

How to Check if DVD Decoder Software is Installed...

By default, Windows XP does not come with compatible DVD decoder software
installed. To confirm if you have Windows XP-compatible DVD decoder
software
on your system:

Start | Run | Type: dvdupgrd /detect | Click OK |

A Windows dialog box will open with identifying information about the
installed software. If No decoders found is displayed, no decoder is
installed and you cannot play DVDs.

Hallo Wesley,

Thanks for the advise.
I re-installed the software for the DVD writer first then I complied with
your directions
The following appeared on my monitor:

DShow SW:
Company Name: Cyberlink Corp
Version 3.5.0.1814
CRC32 OX 44c 9ec 27
W2K Upgrade no
Win 9x no
LCID = 1009

You and your fellow advisors have never let me down. For that I am very
grateful.
