I have scanned a few (well, several, actually) hundred photos with my Canon
LiDE 30, and it performs very well. I did have some driver trouble at
first, but using the website's troubleshooting info and downloading newer
drivers rescued me. I'm using it on a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop running
XP Home. Edit my photos for balance, cropping etc. with ACDsee.
Powered from the USB, thin enough to carry in the same briefcase with my
laptop, perfect solution for me.
Primary usage is old (and new) family photo albums. I take the photos out
of the sleeves when feasible, if not I scan right through the plastic, and
get good results. When viewing the photos on-screen I get good resolution
scanning with 300dpi, better with 600, but larger files and slow scans.
