Hi,
I have an iPAQ H5550 and I'm trying to deploy an application to it from
vs.net 2003, then debug it. Deploying and running works fine directly from
vs, but when I run the app using F5 instead of Ctrl+F5, the process ends
with a message saying "Error while trying to run project: Unable to start
debugging. Unable to start program 'd:\source\...'."
I've been searching the net on this for the past two hours and I have
found quite a lot of articles (including Microsoft faqs) on the topic of
failing deployment and invalid device/desktop system interaction. I've
also found several newsgroup articles describing the exact thing that's
happening to me. Sadly, all of the latter kind have not received a
satisfying reply, usually none at all...
To answer the most likely questions right here:
I've checked for all the obvious stuff from the installation instructions.
I do have toolhelp.dll on the device. ActiveSync works just fine, using
USB for the connection. I have the Windows CE utils installed on the
Desktop system and I tried setting the correct processor architecture with
them, although that was reported correctly before anyway.
One thing I can't tell you much about is the emulator, because with the
development machine running in a VMWare virtual machine, I can't use that
at all. But none of the other folks on the net reporting the same issue
mentioned anything about using VMWare or the like, so I don't suspect
that's the problem here.
Any ideas, anybody? Could I provide more info? Is there a way to find out
more about what exactly is failing on the desktop side? What does "Error
while trying to run ..." exactly mean?
Thanks!
Oliver Sturm
