I have downloaded an hours worth of high-quality video onto my hard drive
creating an 11Gb file. This large file is creating problems with the defrag
and back-up programs now. Has anyone encountered or solved these problems
before?

That is about average for one hour in AVI format - the best quliry,

I stuck problems finding the space a few times on my 40Gb drive, let alone
defrag or any other problems. I used a portable drive (Ipod type portable
disk) until I invested in an external 250GB USB drive ($A260 - maybe less if
you are in US - don't know)
