I can't enter any text in any text box when using a search engine for
example, although it works on Firefox. This is also affecting Outlook Express
where the main e-mail body can't be touched and an unknown error 30 script
error pops up on startup. An identical error message pops up when starting
Norton Security.

Sounds like virus or spyware caused, try to reinstall Norton and run a scan
in safe mode (tap F8 as it reboots)
