Last night, my custom built year old computer (was idling) decided to
shut down. I heard its fan spin down. I didn't do anything to do it. I
tried to power it back on, but it didn't do anything. I did smell
something burning, but I saw no smokes.
I touched the power supply's vent, and it was hot. I don't know if my
power supply overheated or something. I looked inside my computer, I
saw the motherboard light was on meaning it is getting power I guess. I
looked around with my flashlight and saw no ashes, burn spots, etc. I
couldn't figure out where the smoke odor came from. Its odor didn't last
long. I tried another power cable for the computer, and no changes
there.
Do you think it is my Enlight 7237 (80 mm fan; AMD approved; 250 watts)
power supply, motherboard, or something else? I would try another
power supply, but I would like to ask before going out to spending money
on it.
Here's my detail system setup: AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (Actual Clock Speed
= 1800 Mhz) CPU (Socket A; Thoroughbred-A) with a Thermaltake Volcano 9
(heatsink and CPU fan), ASUS A7V333 (North Bridge-VIAKT333 and South
Bridge-VT8233A chipsets; v1 Revision) motherboard, one Kingston DDR DRAM
PC2100/DDR 266 (512 MB) + one Kingston DDR DRAM PC2700/DDR CAS 2.5 (512
MB) = 1 GB of RAM, ATX Mid-tower Tower Case, Leadtek WinFast A250 LE TD
(MyVIVO Edition; NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200; 128 MB of RAM), onboard CMEDIA6
channels audio, Quantum Fireball Plus LM 30 GB HDD (7200 RPM; EIDE), 6.4
GB Quantum Fireball EIDE (6.4EX-A) HDD, Toshiba DVD-ROM Drive
SD-M1912/TMAG 16X/48X, 3.5" Teac disk drive, and an Intel InBusiness
10/100 (82559) NIC. Running Debian OS (Kernel 2.6.10-K7). Yep, I have a
lot of old parts in there.
Remember, I cannot even get the machine to power on and get the fans
spinning. Oh, and no beeps.
Thank you in advance.
